Engineering Net Zero

We see climate change as the most important engineering challenge of our time. As a grid automation solution provider, our specific contribution to this effort will be in reducing the overall cost and complexity of automating a more distributed and decarbonized grid. In addition, we are committed to decarbonizing our own business operations as we work towards SBTi Net Zero status.

This site shares our perspective on how the power grid can be engineered to meet Net Zero, and chronicles our medium-sized private company’s path to a sustainable future.

An opportunity and a journey

In order to avoid the worst consequences of climate change, the power grid must evolve rapidly into a fundamentally different system. As a power grid automation solutions provider, we are well positioned to help electric utilities manage this transition to a distributed, multi-directional, decarbonized future.

Over four decades of simplifying complex engineering problems for electric utilities, we understand a thing or two about how the grid works, and how it will likely change. We also recognize the need to decarbonize our own operations in order to do right by future generations.

NovaTech is changing how we work – through the reduction of our own carbon emissions to reach internal net zero status (approved by the SBTi) and through services and product development to help automate climate resilience and mitigation for our customers and partners. Together we are well-positioned to accelerate the transition to a carbon neutral economy while maximizing fiscal results and engagement with our employees and greater communities.

Our Science Based Targets.

NovaTech Automation has had its emissions reduction targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) as consistent with levels required to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement. The targets covering greenhouse gas emissions from NovaTech Automation’s operations (scopes 1 and 2) are consistent with reductions required to keep warming to 1.5°C, which is what the latest climate science has told us is needed to prevent the most damaging effects of climate change.

Our Journey

NovaTech Automation reduces SBTi Scope 2 emissions to zero with Renewable Energy Credits

Last year NovaTech Automation announced our SBTi (Science Based Target initiatives) commitments to reduce our Carbon and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions. Goals were to reduce from a 2021 base year by 38% by 2030, and to be Net Zero by 2050.
